Introduction to Wheel Throwing
TWO SEPARATE SECTIONS:

Skill level: All levels welcome — no prior clay experience required.
What you’ll make: Typically 3-6 pieces, small-to-medium pieces. Think: coffee mugs and bowls.In this session you will learn:
All the basics of making objects on the potter’s wheel. Handling and preparing clay; centering clay on the wheel; proper form for opening and pulling up the walls of your object; shaping and designing for form and function; finishing, trimming; and the art of glazing!
Why it’s fun:
There’s something that happens the moment you first get your clay centered on the wheel for the first time. Once you feel it, and once you REALLY get the hang of it, we promise you will be changed! It’s so satisfying, and meditative and enjoyable. And beyond the tactile enjoyment, you will get to do this with folks from the community who are also learning something new alongside you, and you’ll have the distinct joy of getting to use something you MADE with your own hands. There’s nothing like drinking your morning coffee out of your own mug!
What’s Included:
The class runs for 6 weeks, with each session lasting 3 hours.
The course includes clay, use of basic tools, and an additional 6 hours of open studio time for you to practice your new skills with the guidance of our amazing Clay Coaches during our designated hours.

Basic Hand-Building

Unleash your creativity and discover the therapeutic art of clay hand-building!
This course will cover the basic fundamentals of hand-building.
No experience is necessary and all levels are welcome in this complete clay experience class.
The class runs for 5 weeks, with each session being two hours long.
The course includes clay, basic tools, and an additional 7 hours of open studio time for you to practice your new skills.

3 hr Luminary Workshop
Sunday January 4th, 2026!
Duration: 3 hours
Skill level: All levels welcome — no prior clay experience required.
What you’ll make: 1-3 unique hand-built glowing luminaries.In this session you’ll learn:
-Techniques for cutting windows, shapes, and patterns that let light shine through (without compromising structure)
-Tips for balancing negative space + strength so your piece glows beautifully and survives the kiln
-Basics of finishing and glazing: you’ll choose your glaze color in class; we’ll fire the piece afterward & you’ll pick it up ready to illuminate cozy nights
Why it’s fun:
Think of it as craft night meets instant ambiance upgrade. You’ll start by choosing a plain pre-made clay piece and leave knowing you designed something that literally sets the mood. It’s creative, a little meditative, and extremely satisfying when you realize, “Wait… I made that.” We provide everything—tools, clay, glazes, firing—just bring your imagination!What’s included:
3 hours of guided instruction in a relaxed, welcoming studio
All materials: clay, tools, pattern cutters, textures, and glazing materials
Firing and finish: your luminary will be bisque- and glaze-fired and ready to hold a candle safely.
